"It's always a good week when you come out with a win and no injuries." RV Head Coach Matt Lundeen said after the Cardinals 26-13 win Friday night. "We had some good plays that, ultimately were the deciding factor in the game."
The Cardinals are off to a 2-0 start, returning from their State-qualifying campaign in 2018. They were able to return a strong core of seniors for this season and were also able to sprinkle in some younger players to get them some experience. Sophomore Quarterback Alex Lang connected with Junior Receiver Connor Josephson from 22 yards out for the first score of the game. After a scoring drought, the Cardinals would block a Maverick punt and Sophomore Drew Lundeen would get a scoop-and-score. Junior Running Back Carter Johnson followed his blocks for a 7 yard score to open up the second half. Late in the 4th quarter Senior Quarterback Bryant Haas would hit Lang (who traded places at receiver), for a 61 yard bomb to cap the Redwood scoring for the night.
